I was stationed in Berling from May 1989 to May 1992. I got to witness the falling of the wall and I still today have pieces of the wall and often talk to the classes at a local elementary school, show the kids pictures from when I was there. It is a memory that I will treasure always.

I found this site while working on my history fair project. When I was little my family lived in Germany and visited Checkpoint Charlie. Your site brought back some memories from that trip. Very fascinating and helpful. Job well done :)

I was stationed in Berlin with the 592nd signal company at Andrews Barracks in 1961 when the wall was erected. It was a tense situation at the time. I will never forget my experiences there.

Hi, I was a member of the British Military Police stationed in Berlin from 1976-1978.
I carried out duties at Checkpoint Charlie on quite a few occassions and also patrolled the wall, both in the City and Rural areas.
I loved Berlin and have only been back once since I left. A great site.

I was just 18 years old when I arrived in Berlin in February 1963. I was stationed there at Andrew\'s Barracks until July of 1965. It was an amazing time for both the USA and Berlin.

I was lucky to meet a wonderful German family that became my family while I was there. My life was changed forever by their influence and by my time in your wonderful city.

I visited Berlin back in 2005 to run the marathon... never again!
I remembered the wall going down in 1989 and on my visit was keen to see what I could of the East / West Germany split through Berlin.
We stayed at the Mercure hotel near Checkpoint Charlie as I wanted to see what this area was like...
it was cool although very commercialised and i was difficult to even imagine what it must have been like when the checkpoint was operational.

What a wonderful site you have created. I was 14 when the wall was erected and I followed the story in the newspapers and television in the USA.
I read many books about Germany and the devastating effects of communism as well. My husband and I were stationed in Germany for 8 years from 1972 - 1980.
We visited Berlin twice while there and I remember feeling very sad that so many people were cut off from friends and relatives.
I also visited East Berlin briefly and was struck by how different it was from West Berlin which was much more lively, busy and fun.
By contrast, East Berlin was quiet and somber with very little goods sold in the stores. Once again, you have created a wonderful site which preserves an important part of German history.

Very helpful source, I think. There is so much info related to the problem of Berlin Wall here.
Also, it\'s interesting to find a pile of historical facts on he pages of this website. Want to say it can even help those students, who\'re searching for essay writing help.
By the way, recently I found one very nice post here - http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/essay/pictures-vanished-country.
Is named \"Pictures From A Vanished Country\". There is a video there... Everyone has to watch it.
